Eventually I want to write an article about how the reds and the blues need to come to grips with certain functional realities, basically that there are certain things we can’t stick back in Pandora’s Box. One of those is gun proliferation, and another is the sexual revolution.

But on the flip side, that doesn’t mean we can’t speak meaningfully and honestly about the bad side effects that both have had.

There’s a tendency on either side of the red/blue fence to see criticism of each, and jump to the conclusion that the person being critical is proposing a kind of a Pandora’s Re-internment Plan or something. That doesn’t really get us anywhere in my opinion. We’re stuck in a world with free sex and cheap guns, and we need to figure out good ways to live in that world.

And in my estimation, it’s honestly not a terrible world to live in if we do it right.
