Funny you should mention that. Jordan Greenhall‘s treatise on the Blue Church was literally my first ever trip to Medium, which prompted me to use it as a platform to store my own gun policy research for use in later Facebook arguments. I got hooked from there, and have ended up (rather surprisingly) with a plethora of traffic from it. (third of a million hits since mid March? It’s insane.) I referenced him in one of the articles as well, I think perhaps the first one. I wonder if he’s gotten any linkback traffic from it.
I think equating the media competing for attention as a “Tragedy of the Commons” might be a stretch, particularly when other tragedies of the commons are typically handled by government regulation. While the analogy might work, even perhaps a bit too well, that’s a dangerous line to tread. It must be approached with care if someone doesn’t leap to very bad and very dangerous conclusions.
I’m very dystopian in my view of where this heads.
