Except that the ‘Believe Women’ signs are in the context of women being disbelieved as a default, whereas it seems that men are trusted to a greater degree than women, in general.
I certainly think some people believe that to be the context, as I’m sure you do, but I‘m not completely clear that the numbers bear out that belief. I also think the general reaction to those signs (as a litmus of the entire culture war battle) shows a deep schism in what people believe the context to be. The red tribe and the blue tribe live in different contexts, because they’re both getting fed their contexts from their phones, and their phones are speaking different languages. These are technologically reinforced echo chamber mechanics at work.
As to which ‘context’ is more in line with reality, consider the following:
We see far more women granted full custody of children during divorce than men, far more women granted alimony than men, much softer sentencing of women determined guilty of (violent or nonviolent) crimes than men, and higher rates of pregnancy entrapment among women sexual partners than male sexual partners. Those are just a smattering of examples of a wider trend. That would seem to me that the belief/trust balance in practice, on the ground level, already leans favorably towards women.
But nobody’s looking at numbers. Everybody’s just adopting whatever context their tribe tells them to adopt. The tribal bifurcation over this is pretty terrifying, and could very well lead to much worse things than we see today at a societal level.
