I come from a competitive policy debate background, as does he, so I can see what he’s doing in my head when he talks. He’s “flowing” a debate, even when he’s monologuing. Flowing is a term for when competitive policy debaters create a kind of an argument flowchart to identify places to attack another’s argument, or places to defend their own. He’s been flowing the same eight issues for years, so he’s got his mental chart really nailed down in his head, and it informs his script.
There are things I wholly agree with him on, such as Obamacare, and things I very much don’t, because I identify holes in his flow. But hell if I’d want to debate him on a stage. I’d get slaughtered. He’s very good at what he does.
