I rather love what’s happened to music since Napster. The middle men are literally gone if you want to take the time and do the procedures they used to do for you.

Not sure what sort of music you’re into, but I got a copy of Ableton Live, spent a few years learning it, and released an album. I did go to friends familiar with mixdown and mastering to have them do it, but I watched and learned what they were doing and why, and now I can (effectively) do the process myself. And you can get your stuff on Spotify by paying CDBaby a couple hundred bucks. It’s worth it, if not financially, purely for self enrichment. Give it a shot!
