I talk extensively about the suicide issue in my second article, Jay. You might like it. (or you might not, which is fine)
The Left Is Making the Wrong Case on Gun Deaths. Here’s a Better Case.
The gun conversation in this country has real, systemic problems.
Suicide is absolutely the biggest problem in this space, and any discussion about “gun deaths” that does not put suicide prevent at the top priority is manipulative.
I have not seen compelling evidence yet showing that the relative level of “gun control” in a given state is causally related to the homicide rate in that state. I have seen Mother Jones and other similar outlets warp data visualizations to try and show that, but it hasn’t played out when I looked deeply at it. In my review, it appears that all the relationship actually goes back to how states with higher “gun control” levels have fewer voters who own guns, and there is definitely a correlation between suicide rate and gun ownership rate in men. If you have information to share about this, please do so. I’d like to read it.
