I’m not convinced that the suicide issue should be separated. I think it would be perfectly fine to include it, but it must be clear that it’s being included. And if it’s included, then the policy proposals must have that in mind.
I’m currently working on another article that does a lot of the breakdowns you’re interested in seeing, and I’m learning quite a lot via the process. For instance, gun suicides of professional aged males (25–65) account for more “gun deaths” than all other gun deaths combined, including all homicides, all accidents, all female suicides, and all suicides of males younger than 25 and older than 65. It’s staggering. There is a real problem there, that it would be nice if someone pointed out.
