Well recent incidents where police have occupied homes to stakeout “suspects” would seem to put the position that the 3rd Amendment is still being in effect, in question.

On the rest of your post, I’d note that mass shootings literally aren’t a problem, statistically speaking. Nor are “assault weapons,” which make up some number considerably less than 0.7% of the gun deaths in the country. The mathematics on this are absolutely clear. (see prior links) The reason people seem to think that they are a problem goes back to how they consume their media today, and how the profit motives of the media have undergone a fundamental shift from informing the viewer to peddling anxiety for clicks.
To your thoughts on the political process itself, I’ll say this:
The will of the people is a historically dangerous thing when they are flooded with anxiety and misinformation.
