In 2017, almost 40,000 people died from guns in the United States. My goal as President, and our goal as a society, will be to reduce that number by 80%.
You could magically end all gun homicide in the country and still only reduce the number by 36%, because 64% are suicides. Yet your 29 bullet plan only has one bullet focusing on suicides, and even it is basically a red flag law that’s been shown not to work.
And several of your bullets, most particularly Universal Background Checks, literally prevent suicidal men from giving their guns to friends to hold on to while they’re going through grief or depression.
This plan claims to reduce gun deaths by 80% but will probably increase gun suicides. It’s a bunch of talking points with no efficacy, some of which are literally harmful.
The Gun Lane We Need Doctors In, and Government Out
Much has been said recently of the NRA’s hyperbolic statement that doctors need to “stay in their lane.”
