Ownership rates are really hard to come by in this space. Some researchers use direct sampling, but the sample sizes are small. Other researchers use suicide as a proxy. They’ll take the ratio of gun suicides to total suicides as a kind of an indicator, and then apply certain cultural corrections. It’s a tough data pool to work with.
