Thank you so much for your focus on suicide with the article. The vast majority of gun deaths are suicides, and the vast majority of those are men. The “gun deaths” problem, writ large, is a men’s health problem, numerically speaking. And curiously, the two groups who should be most concerned about that problem are doctors, and the NRA.
Further, this is not a problem that new laws are going to fix, because a law confiscating firearms of suicidal people will disincentivize suicidal gun owners from seeking treatment. It is only a problem that can be solved by educating gun owners, and maintaining an open channel between gun owners and their doctors. It is definitely a problem that can be made worse by laws, however, if those laws interrupt the channel of communication, as you point out.
