I think I can state very firmly that my approach in the article is objectively the least amount of torture anyone can apply to the numbers at hand. The only sound statistical argument against what I’ve presented here is that the numbers aren’t tortured enough.

That said, I’ll address your qualm specifically, by stating that school shootings are an absolutely terrible way to frame the problems we do have related to “gun deaths,” purely because they’re so fantastically rare. We explore that here:
