The number of gun deaths would plummet around the zero bound, so changing our gun ownership rates from 3% to 1% would have a big effect. But we have so many guns that we’re in a basically flat zone of the results curve, so changing our gun ownership rate by half wouldn’t impact the numbers much. I did an analysis here, based on Siegel’s numbers within the piece you responded to. TL;DR we need to buy back 80 million dollars worth of guns per single life saved, because of how many guns we already have. The ROI is garbage. Doesn’t work. And that would be true if I was pro gun or anti gun.
