The problem is cost.
Spitballing 3 million dollars per MW for offshore installations, the 8 MW Siemens turbine will probably cost around 24 million per install. Source for numbers:
30,000 turbines, plus or minus, will cost 720 trillion dollars. If the United States directed 100% of all federal outlays towards windmills, we’d have the farm complete in 190 years.
