Your theory makes intuitive sense to me. My intuition is that I’d rather be in a dark alley in Atlanta than in London, because everyone knows for sure I’m unarmed in London. But I have not drilled down to any numbers on this, and I am increasingly willful on admitting up front when I feel something is true, as opposed to seeing something is true with numbers. Our internal cognitive biases are bleeding into targeted media, and that’s the root of the echo chamber problem.
Eventually, the punch line of this entire series of articles is not going to be about guns at all, it’s going to be about how our modern media engine breeds insanity for profit, across any and all topics. I’m itching to get there, but there’s more to say on the gun thing before it’s all wrapped up.
